Happy International Women’s Day!
We have lofty goals for the year ahead following the cultural phenomenon that was the “Year of the Woman” in 2018. Here at the Manufacturing Institute, we plan on making just as much (if not more) progress this year in attracting, retaining, and promoting women in manufacturing through our initiatives.
Women today account for less than a third of manufacturers, despite representing about half of all workers. However, women in previous generations showed the country what they could do through manufacturing and it’s on us to inspire girls in the next generation to dream of what they can do through manufacturing, too.
We are a huge pool of untapped talent and potential. We are changemakers, trailblazers, and dreamers who could shape this industry for generations to come. This International Women’s Day, I ask you to pay it forward as an ambassador for the manufacturing industry. Maybe this involves helping a coworker with her resume as she tries to move up the ladder, or perhaps it’s coming home and talking to your children about what you do. By sharing our passion for this industry, we can work together to close the gender gap and in turn close the skills gap in manufacturing. Together, we can keep this industry innovating and growing.
How are you celebrating International Women’s Day?
