    At AGCO, our employees take pride in their work and strive to be groundbreakers in the agricultural manufacturing industry.

    That is why the Manufacturing Institute's STEP Ahead Awards is continuously met with enthusiasm by our team as an opportunity to recognize our female colleagues who exemplify manufacturing talent and leadership. This excitement manifested itself in the large volume of nominations generated each year. As the Institute strives to recognize women from a number of organizations - and now selects a maximum of two Honorees and one Emerging Leader from each company - we wanted to maximize AGCO's chances of having its most deserving employees chosen for the national award. We implemented an internal nomination process that occurs prior to submitting the official STEP Ahead Award nominations so we could have the best qualified candidates represent AGCO as official STEP Ahead Award nominees.

    I want to share our process as I'm sure many of you feel the same way and may have considered implementing your own internal selection process. It's not as daunting as you may think and has resulted in great recognition for AGCO's talented women!

    The first step is promoting the STEP Ahead Awards within your organization. Next, your company can produce its own nomination form, specifying an internal deadline for submissions. After this deadline, nominations can be reviewed to reduce the number of potential candidates. At AGCO, we choose a small committee to review submissions. During this evaluation, nominees are separated into Honorees and Emerging Leaders and each group is  evaluated with a standardized scorecard we create. The evaluation scale varies depending on the number of nominations we receive in each group. Based on these scorecards, official nominees for both categories are selected, essays are polished and then the nominations are officially submitted to the Institute. These efforts have really paid dividends as AGCO's women have been recognized every year since the STEP Ahead Awards' inception. Of course, once you win, make sure to publicize any recognition your company receives both internally and externally, though your intranet, a press release, and social media. Taking these steps should help you put your best foot forward for STEP Ahead Award nominations!
