Continuing our mission to empower women in manufacturing one region at a time, The Manufacturing Institute hosted another one of our STEP Forward events on yesterday in Southeast Pennsylvania in collaboration with Arconic Foundation. Overall, the event aimed to discuss the attraction, advancement, and retention of women in science, technology, engineering, and production (STEP) careers. Both male and female manufacturing leaders were invited to attend in order to facilitate a holistic conversation. Invitations were extended with the goal of directly inspiring manufacturers to recognize the importance of women in manufacturing and to promote the STEP initiative within their own companies.Attendees were welcomed to the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square with an open networking reception. Along with light food and beverages, guests were provided the opportunity to connect with manufacturers in other companies and compare their experiences within the manufacturing industry. The event incorporated a panel discussion with @Sandy Abell, Owner & Chairman of Micro Facture LLC; @Libby High, Lab Superintendent at Arconic; and Michael Winters, VP of Operations Americas, Manufacturing for Armstrong World Industries. Through a facilitated discussion with the panelists, guests gained exposure to and feedback on some of the best practices that the manufacturing industry has seen thus far for effectively incorporating women into the field. Attendees were able to return to their respective companies with a commitment to advance women in STEP and a greater understanding of how to do so. In this way, the Southeast PA event served as yet another step in the right direction for underrepresented women in manufacturing.
