While women make up nearly half of the U.S. labor force, they represent only 28.6% of the manufacturing labor force. In the automotive manufacturing sector, women represent 23.6% of the workforce- less than a quarter of the automotive manufacturing workforce. Despite the impact COVID has had on the sector, automotive manufacturers are engaged in considerable efforts aimed at retaining, developing, and advancing the current and future generations of female automotive manufacturers.

The Manufacturing Institute’s STEP Forward program, an integral part of the Institute’s STEP Women’s Initiative, provides women in manufacturing with an opportunity to hear from industry leaders, connect with their peers in the industry and learn best practices they can bring back to their company.

Hosted by the Manufacturing Institute, this informative, thought-provoking session will feature workforce leaders at the forefront of shaping and leading efforts towards advancing women in automotive manufacturing including:

Moderator:
Dana Komin, 2018 STEP Ahead Alumna, Global Manufacturing Chief Engineer- Advanced Vehicle Development - General Motors
Panelist: Cindy Barnett, Manufacturing Manager of Metal Supply, Arconic Davenport Works
Panelist:  Shaun Whitehead, Director of Manufacturing – Transmission, Driveline and Powertrain Components, Ford Motor Company
Panelist: Gail May, Performance Manufacturing Center Division Manager, Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc.

After the panel discussion,  participants shared their personal stories and best practices in:

• Effectively leveraging Women Employee Resource Groups
• Supporting Working Mothers and Caregivers
• Career Development & Advancement
